Other FAQ

As POE fabricate your PCBs in our facilities in Shenzhen China, we ship internationally to your country. As the customs policy in different countries may differ, some customs authorities in some countries may levy customs duty on imported PCBs. If this happens, it is your responsibility to pay. In many countries, the duty may be waived or exempted.

Yes.

POE is focused on Turnkey services. For a turnkey order, we will require a bill of materials (BOM), and of course your board designs in either Gerber or ODB++ format. In addition,Fabrication or assembly drawings, or any special instructions specific to the project. If your design is not fully completed, we do provide preliminary quotes based on early gerber files. We have provided further details on generating these files below.

Gerber/ODB++/PCB. Files

A drill file contains the location and size of all drill holes. There may be multiple files if blind/ buried vias are required. Please be sure to include all drill files to ensure none of your requirements are missed; Mechanical files should also be included with your file set. For example, the board outline file is used for verifying the dimension of the board. You may also want to include any cut-outs or internal routing on this layer; We also accept ODB++ file in lieu of Gerber files. These files are typically generated in an archive and include all fabrication files together.

Contains information about where each component is placed on the board, such as the x-y position, rotation, layer, reference designator and the value/package.

The BOM is a list of all the parts that will be populated on the board.

If your board contains any special requirements such as impedance control, gold fingers, blind/buried via, unique stack up/ thickness, etc., please include a document outlining your requirements. These requirements are commonly listed in “ReadMe” text files or “PDF” files.

An assembly drawing is helpful when there is not enough space for all reference designators on the board. A document containing the assembly information of your board is most commonly sent as a "PDF" file.

If you are still working to finalize your design, we can typically generate a preliminary quote based on early Gerber files, or a detailed description. When you have finalized your design, we will review any updated files and modify your quote accordingly. If you need any additional information regarding data requirements, please email all@poe-pcba.com and one of our specialists will get in touch with you.

PCBA FAQ

If the parts in your Bill of Materials (BOM) are common and we don't have any of the parts in our inventory, we will order them in bulk. If we typically stock the parts you have selected, you will only need to pay a small fee or no fee at all for those parts. For uncommon parts listed in your BOM, we usually order 5% or 5 spare parts (depending on size and cost) to complete your order without the risk of losing or running short on parts due to production losses. We bear the cost of production losses, so you don't have to worry about paying any additional fees. If we encounter any issues with the BOM components, such as a large minimum order quantity for a particular part, we will communicate with you to find the best solution. POE has a team of 35 procurement engineers to handle all BOM part quotations and procurement. We provide quotes within 24 hours or up to 7 days, depending on the BOM. We procure all components both domestically and internationally in China, and we have access to discounted prices from local distributors or suppliers we have been working with for over 10 years.

The overall lead time for the project is the sum of the lead time for component procurement and PCB assembly. However, we try to shorten the time by streamlining the PCB assembly process. For example, once we receive the Gerber files for your PCB manufacturing and the BOM for PCB assembly, we will start preparing the templates for your circuit board and proceed with manufacturing while the component procurement process is ongoing.

Bill of Materials (BOM) - complete information in Excel format. The file should include manufacturer names, part numbers, reference designators, component descriptions, and quantities.

Centroid data (also known as pick-and-place or XY coordinate data). Any other requirements or assembly instructions, if applicable.

Yes, we can perform partial assembly. Please indicate in the BOM which components should be excluded ("Do Not Include" or DNI) or not placed (DNP) to let us know which components you do not want to be assembled.

Yes, a combination of manual soldering and automated soldering can be used. If there are no specific requirements, manual soldering is used for prototypes (machines are required).

Yes, we can do that. This practice is known as partial turnkey. You can provide some components, and we will procure the remaining components on your behalf. We will seek your approval for anything that we are uncertain about. If there is a need for component cross-reference or substitution, we will seek your final approval.

Yes, we have the capability to handle BGAs with a 0.25mm pitch through X-ray testing. There are two designs for BGAs: one with through-holes on the pads and one with shorter traces connecting to holes near the pads. We need to cover and fill all the through-holes near the BGA pads with solder mask to ensure soldering quality. However, for through-holes on the pads, we need to fill them with resin to ensure good soldering quality.

Excess components do exist because we request an overage percentage for consigned/turnkey orders, or we purchase more components for bulk orders for the same purpose. You can request us to ship back these unused components along with the assembled boards, or we can keep them on our shelf for your future orders. It's up to you. Additionally, for testing and evaluation in your lab, you can also order regular components from us for free.

Yes, it fully complies with RoHS standards, and if needed, we can also provide PCBA services with leaded components.

Yes, we have the capabilities to fulfill any type of custom SMT prototype board requirements.

If you encounter any defects or quality issues with the PCBs upon receipt and are unsatisfied, please notify us at all@poe-pcba.com. We will repair or remake your PCBs, and we will respond within 8 hours until you are satisfied.

Yes, that's not a problem. However, we offer PCB manufacturing, component procurement, and PCB assembly in a continuous and smooth manner to save our customers' time and money.

When shipping your components to us for assembly, it's important to package them securely to prevent damage during transit. Here are some guidelines to follow: Use anti-static packaging: Most electronic components are sensitive to electrostatic discharge (ESD), so it's crucial to use anti-static packaging materials. Place the components in anti-static bags or trays to protect them from ESD.

Clearly label each package with the component name, part number, and quantity. This will help us identify and verify the components easily upon receipt.

Use appropriate padding materials, such as bubble wrap or foam, to protect the components and prevent them from moving around during shipping. This will minimize the risk of damage.

Ensure that all packages are securely sealed to prevent any components from falling out or getting lost during transit.

Include a detailed packing list inside the shipment that outlines the contents of each package. This will help us cross-check the received components with the provided list.

Select a reliable shipping method with tracking to ensure that the package can be easily traced and delivered within the expected timeframe. You may also consider insuring the shipment for added protection.

Before shipping the components, it's a good practice to communicate with us and inform us about the shipment details, including the carrier, tracking number, and expected delivery date. This will help us anticipate the arrival of your components and plan accordingly. By following these packaging and shipping guidelines, you can help ensure that your components arrive safely and in good condition for the assembly process.
