Why do PCB need exhaust?

The residual gases from materials such as solder resist, adhesives, flux, and cleaners used in PCB manufacturing will escape when the heat is high during subsequent soldering and reflow, which may cause PCB delamination, solder joint defects, contamination and other problems that damage the PCB.

During the PCB manufacturing process, exhaust issues are often overlooked, which may damage the performance of the PCB. So why do we need exhaust?

The residual gases from materials such as solder resist, adhesives, flux, and cleaners used in PCB manufacturing will escape when the heat is high during subsequent soldering and reflow, which may cause PCB delamination, solder joint defects, contamination and other problems that damage the PCB.

How to solve the exhaust problem?

1. Drying the PCB
Put it in a drying oven to bake before PCB assembly to remove moisture. This can greatly reduce the risk during soldering.

2. Use low-VOC materials
Choose materials with low volatile organic content, high-quality solder resist, adhesives, and laminates can reduce this risk.

3. Vacuum regulation
As the name suggests, regulating the PCB in a vacuum chamber can extract the trapped gas.

4. Proper storage
Use vacuum sealed bags and moisture-proof bags to prevent moisture absorption during storage.

5. Thorough cleaning
Use ultrasonic cleaning system to clean the residue during the process and prevent exhaust during operation.

Why is exhaust important?
If you have ever encountered an unexpected product failure, there is a certain possibility that it is due to exhaust, so exhaust work is essential for aerospace, medical equipment, and communications fields that require high reliability.
