PCB raw materials, that is, the materials for making printed circuit boards, usually include substrates, metal foils, printing inks, solder paste, cover films, etc. These main PCB raw materials will be introduced in detail below.
1.Substrate: PCB substrate is the main carrier for connecting and fixing electronic components. It usually uses glass fiber reinforced materials, such as FR-4. FR-4 is a material with high strength and good insulation properties, and has good mechanical strength and thermal stability.
2.Metal foil: The conductive layer on the PCB is usually made of copper foil. Copper foil plays a role in conducting electricity and connecting circuits during the PCB manufacturing process. Copper foil with a thickness of loz is the most common choice. Depending on the needs, thicker copper foil is sometimes needed to increase the current carrying capacity.
3.Printing ink: During the PCB production process, the circuit pattern needs to be printed on the substrate, which requires the use of printing ink. Printing ink is usually composed of resin, solvent and pigment. Its main function is to provide good adhesion and form a conductive film.
4.Solder paste: Solder paste is an important part of the PCB manufacturing process. Its main function is to provide solder joints when soldering components. Solder paste is a colloidal material containing active flux. It generally uses paraffin wax or synthetic resin as the base material, and adds a certain proportion of active agent and flow agent.
5.Covering film: After the PCB is made, in order to protect the circuit and solder joints, it is usually necessary to cover the surface with a protective film. Covering films are usually made of polymer materials, including polyimide, epoxy resin, polypropylene, etc. The covering film can provide a protective layer to prevent the circuit from being damaged by the outside world, and can also serve as insulation and moisture-proof.
The above are several raw materials commonly used in the PCB manufacturing process. They have different properties and advantages to meet different application needs. Through the combination of different materials and processing techniques, printed circuit boards with higher performance and reliability can be produced.
