Especially in the fields of aviation, medical and automobile, stable and durable PCB is the most critical. So how to improve the reliability of PCB? This needs to be strictly controlled from the beginning of design, materials, processes and testing.
1. PCB design
There is a clear signal path, sufficient spacing, heat-sensitive components away from high-power components, and effective heat dissipation using thermal vias or copper injection, and multi-layer design is used for complex circuits, separating the power layer, ground layer and signal layer to reduce electromagnetic interference. This plays a decisive role in subsequent manufacturing.
2. Use high-quality materials
Use standard FR-4 or polyimide used in high-temperature environments, and ensure sufficient copper thickness to handle the required current. Do a good job of surface treatment such as HASL, ENIG or OSP to prevent copper oxidation and ensure welding.
3. Improve the quality of through holes and holes
Use plated through holes (PTH) with a copper plating thickness between 20-25 microns to greatly ensure the durability of the product. For HDIPCB, use blind and buried vias to save space and improve signals.
4. Pay attention to component placement and assembly
Wrong component placement is obviously a low-level error that is not allowed. To avoid it, you need to determine
Positioning holes with a tolerance of 0.1, so that the components can be accurately aligned during the assembly process. Of course, you also need to add reference holes for automatic optical inspection (AOI).
5. Consider environmental factors
For stability, the environment has high requirements, so applying conformal coating can keep the PCB away from moisture, dust and chemicals.
6. Conduct rigorous testing
Testing is an important step in determining whether a product is feasible, including functional testing, environmental testing, and stress testing. If you can pass the test, the product will have better reliability
Working with an experienced PCB manufacturer can improve your concerns about uncertain products. The PCB manufacturer can check the design before manufacturing and control every link to achieve a truly 100% reliable PCB.
